This face-to-face course delivers the nationally recognised unit RIISAM204E – Operate small plant and equipment, ensuring you are equipped with the essential skills to safely operate and maintain a variety of construction and industrial tools.

What You’ll Learn
Plan and prepare for small plant operations.
Conduct routine pre-operational checks.
Operate various small plant items (e.g., compaction equipment, saws, pumps).
Carry out basic operator maintenance (cleaning, fluid checks).
Identify and report faults.
Clean up work area and store equipment correctly.
Implement site safety procedures.
Upon successful completion, participants receive a Statement of Attainment and are eligible to operate small plant and equipment in the Resources and Infrastructure industries.
Requirements
Age: Must be 18 years or older.
ID: Valid Photo ID (Passport, Driver’s Licence, or Proof of Age Card).
USI: Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Language: Conversational level of English for reading, responding, and interpreting safety information (No translators permitted).
PPE: Enclosed footwear is required. All other PPE (Gloves, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection) will be supplied.
Physical: Must be physically capable of handling and operating small plant machinery.
Re-enrolment Policy
Participants must complete all components of the course within the allocated timeframe. Failure to achieve competency may require re-enrolment and payment of associated fees.
The Assessment Includes:
Theory assessment (Equipment operation and safety).
Pre-operational checks and maintenance procedures.
Practical operation of various small plant items.
Demonstration of safe cutting, compacting, or pumping techniques.
Work area cleanup and documentation.
